Reconstruir: Supporting rebuilding efforts in Mexico

Over $13,000 raised so far! Thank you for the generous support!

Art + Food + Mezcal + Music  |  The Cooper Union School of Art |  41 Cooper Gallery  |  Saturday, November 4th  |  6-10pm

$200 = One artwork + poster + entrance | $25 = Poster + entrance

On September 7th, a magnitude 8.2 earthquake struck the southern part of Mexico; twelve days later another earthquake, magnitude 7.1, shook Mexico City and its surroundings. These two powerful earthquakes killed hundreds, toppled buildings and destroyed communities.

We want to help reconstruction efforts by raising $20,000 through this event and fundraiser.  All proceeds will be donated to Mexican communities severely impacted by these earthquakes.

We’ve collected over a hundred works of art generously donated by an amazing group of artists (see list below). Works will be displayed at 41 Cooper Gallery. Please join us with a donation $25(USD) to a night of Art, Mezcal, Tamales and Music and receive a letterpress printed poster. For every donation of $200(USD) supporters will receive one work of art as a thank you.

Donated artworks and contributors of $200 will be paired at 8 pm the night of November 4th at 41 Cooper Gallery (If you are not able to attend the event we will make arrangements to be sure you receive the artwork that was paired with your name). Drinks at the event will be generously provided by Bruxo Mezcal and Transmitter Brewing, food by INSA Korean BBQ & Karaoke.

Music provided by special guest The Josh Craig.

Funds raised will be donated to: Centro Cultural Bacaanda | Los Carpintruenos  | Museo Comunitario del Valle de Xico

We are working with Mexican artist Omar Barquet who is conducting relief and rebuilding efforts in the community of El Jicarero, in the state of Morelos through the collective Los Carpintruenos; artist Maria Thereza Alves, who is working with the Museo Comunitario del Valle de Xico which under the direction of Genaro Amaro Altamirano, has been helping to deliver food and medicine to affected populations in Valle de Chalco; as well as artist Cristian Pineda Flores working with Centro Cultural Bacaanda located in Juchitan,Oaxaca.
