I started visiting the Grand Holiday Motel in New Jersey last year because I was working on another project in the area. The women cleaning let me walk and document all the rooms. Inspired by what I saw, I began to design a series of pillows composed of printed vinyl, foam and some kind of velvet or silky backing. At the time I had been researching products that were derived by the female body such as flesh lights, sex toys and real dolls.
A huge component of my work has been influenced by amateur photography on online real doll forums. These sites serve as a virtual meeting place for collectors to share images of their dolls. Many of these photographs are narrative and tell stories of day to day activities such as a day at the beach, doing yoga, looking out the window or taking a bath. The web provides a space of anonymity to explore and share freely. I personally feel that having my work exist online opens up the conversation to a new audience that is not solely concerned with art and takes me in directions that are completely unknown and exciting.
These works are available as part of Grupo < 11 > Prints; a fundraiser made possible in collaboration with Alpha’a. A portion of the proceeds from the sales of this limited edition fine art prints will go to the production of the catalogue of Grupo < 11 > - an exhibition and series of satellite projects organized by Grupo < > in March of 2017. The edition consists of 10 prints available only in one size (23.62 x 15.75) accompanied by a certificate of authentication.
